Vegan Jalapeño Popper Wontons
These vegan jalapeño popper wontons are the perfect appetizer to bring to a holiday party or game day! They are easy to make and a great crunchy snack!
How do you prepare wontons?
There are several different folds for wontons along with several different preparation techniques. They typically come steamed, deep-fried, or in soup. This recipe uses an air fryer, though can be made using any of the other methods as well.
What is wonton filling made of?
Traditional wontons are filled with pork or shrimp, but given that these are vegan and not traditional, these feature the classic jalapeño popper flavor.
Are wontons always vegan?
Most traditional wonton dough is made with eggs, and the filling itself is not traditionally vegan. However, many restaurants and food bloggers have mastered their take on the classic and vegans can different versions while out or in their own homes!

Jalapeño Popper Wontons
Ingredients
- 25 vegan wonton wrappers
- oil spray
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 head garlic, minced
- 3 large jalapeño peppers, diced
- 8 oz vegan cream cheese
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- generous pinch of white pepper
- generous pinch of salt
- optional: 1/4 cup chopped scallions or chives
- your favorite dipping sauce
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Once hot, add onions and garlic and saute until fragrant. Then, add in jalapeños and cook over medium-high heat until softened, approximately 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine cream cheese, nutritional yeast, and remaining seasonings. Once jalapeño mixture is cooked, add to the bowl and stir until combined. Optional: Fold in scallions or chives.
- Add 1 tsp (yes, just 1 tsp) of filling to the wonton wrapper. Lightly brush the outsides of the wrapper with water then fold to seal in your desired shape.
- In an air fryer, layer wontons in a single layer and spray with oil. Cook at 325F for 4-5 minutes. Alternatively, fry in a pan with a thin layer of oil until crispy. Serve hot. Enjoy!
